It’s your right to know
Summer is just around the corner and it’s time for the coats and sweaters to go back into the closet. As the temperature increases, the amount of clothing people wear decreases week by week. Everyone wants to look good on the beach or by the pool this season and this can only mean one thing: time to go to the gym!
Now it’s easier than ever to get your body back into shape after the long winter months. The Depot, next to the Parkhurst and Foundation residence halls, provides many different machines for students to use. Each can work different areas of your body, contributing to a well rounded work out. In addition to the cardio machines, there is also a full weight room. You can use the many free weights that are available or work your muscles on the weight machines. Each machine has directions on how to use it and pictures of what area you are working, in case you don’t know much about the machine itself. In addition to the posted directions there are also usually people who work at the Depot walking around and willing to help or answer questions.
Although the Depot was a great addition to the campus last semester, it has proven to be an even better asset. This semester the hours have been increased so students have more time to fit in a work out in their busy schedule. Morning hours have been added twice a week, along with the original hours that were set last semester.
Now, while running on the tread mill or working out on the elliptical machine you can watch television. The TV makes the time go by faster and you are no longer dependent on your own form of entertainment. Also, to make your work out more comfortable there are convenient spaces built into the machines for your water bottle and your walkman if listening to music is what makes the time pass by for you.
The Depot depends on the students using the facility to help keep it new and clean. They ask for you to wipe down your machine after using it so the next person doesn’t have to put their hands where your sweaty ones once were. It’s courteous to everyone to wipe down your machine, and cleaner is provided in a number of spots to make it easier for you to do so.
With so many people taking advantage of this facility it is sometimes difficult to get a machine. Waiting a few minutes for a spot to be available is not uncommon, but at peek hours they ask for you not to exceed twenty minutes. This cuts down on the waiting period I’m sure many people have experienced. However, the important thing to know is that people will wait to work out. It is worth waiting a few extra minutes for an enjoyable workout experience.
