Fashion File …

Who knew that your Georgia College & State University fashionista knew a thing or two about beauty? Lucky for some of you out there I do. This week’s column is dedicated to the ladies. I want to tell you what you definitely need to have in your beauty bag, make-up drawer, or wherever your beauty tools like to call home. These are the top 5 things that every college girl should make sure that she has in her little bag of tricks.
1. A face moisturizer that has an SPF of at least 15. Besides the fact that a moisturizer is like a drink of water for your skin, you must make sure that you choose a moisturizer that contains the SPF 15 recommended by dermatologists. I mean, come on girls, we’ve heard it for years, but have any of us been listening? A treatment that will protect our faces from the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays and help prevent us from getting wrinkles is no fairytale elixir. It can be found in the aisles of our very own Wal-Mart. We can’t stay indoors forever, but this simple solution can continuously protect us, even if we’re outside for mere minutes. Stock up! This is a beauty must-have!
2. Whitening toothpaste. This product has been around for a while, so you really have no excuse for a dingy, yellow grill. I would hope that all of you have this next to your toothbrush, but for the idiots out there, pick some up. Besides chunky shoes, there’s nothing worse than someone who has gross teeth. While you can’t go from Austin Powers to Katie Couric in a matter of one brushing, continuous use will definitely help you get those pearly whites that will have people gasping.
3. Eye Cream. I know what you’re thinking, girls: “Annie, I’m in college. Why do I need an eye cream?” Use your crystal ball and look 20 years into the future at what your eyes will look like without a preemptive strike. Take some initiative! It’s a good idea to get into the habit of using some sort of specialty eye ointment so that as you head into your 40s you won’t have to be concerned with how much botox to insert and how many facelifts you will need to look like your husband’s secretary. Get a leg up so you won’t have to worry about nasty crowsfeet! Just a little every night before bed will definitely make a statement down the road. It might cost you some money up front, but think of what you’ll save not forking over money on plastic surgery — at least on your eyes!
4. Multi-vitamins. With the crazy lifestyle that most college girls lead, it’s nearly impossible to live a completely healthy lifestyle — what with all the late night “study sessions” and “milk drinking.” That’s why a multi-vitamin will give you the extra boost your body needs. Nobody’s perfect, Martha Stewart proved that, but a good vitamin is full of the calcium, iron and especially folic acid that every girl needs. My suggestion? Pre-natal vitamins. They have a well rounded balance of everything that you need. Not to mention, they will make your hair grow faster, your nails stronger, your skin healthier and your baby will feel as good as gold! One a day with a full glass of water will be all you’ll need to improve your fast-paced college lifestyle.
5. A good pair of tweezers. I hoped that you girls had this covered, but from the looks of some brows on campus, you clearly haven’t gotten the message. Keeping your brows in check is a must. Might I suggest a brand of tweezers that I absolutely adore and strongly urge you to pick up? La Cross. They can be found at Wal-Mart and come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Pick up a pair today and I promise your brows will be on their way to perfection!
I hope that these beauty must-haves have helped some of you. Just think, if you’ve got at least four out of five of these criteria covered, then you’re in good beauty shape! Visit your local Wal-Mart today and load up on beauty essentials!
