Ashton and Fitzpatrick named new Mr. and Ms. GC&SU
Juniors Reese Fitzpatrick and Drew Ashton were crowned Mr. and Ms. GC&SU during the annual Georgia College & State University homecoming dance on Feb. 21.
Fitzpatrick, a mass communication major, represented Alpha Delta Pi. Currently, she is a student ambassador and through Alpha Delta Pi, she volunteers with the Animal Rescue Foundation and the Adopt-a-Grandparent program. She also paticipates in the Georgia Education Mentor Program and is the Panhellenic president for Alpha Delta Pi.
“I was blown away. I didn’t think I was going to win because of all the wonderful girls,” said Fitzpatrick. “The love and support I got from my friends and sisters was a great feeling.”
Ashton, a political science major, represented the Student Ambassador Team.
“Both Reese and Drew are great representatives for this,” said Ron Lunk, assistant director of student activities. “They will definitely do good for this campus.”
Lunk said that even though the week-long activities did not draw as big of a crowd as he hoped, the dance was a success.
“With the weather being cold all of last week, I think that hurt the amount of people showing up,” said Lunk. “But the night of the dance, we had a great crowd and the night was definitely a success.”
For the fourth year in a row, an Alpha Delta Pi sorority member was elected as Ms. GC&SU. While, for the second consecutive year, a member of the Student Ambassador Team won Mr. GC&SU.
In 2001, Jennifer Hill won the crown, Kristen Shuppe won the honors in 2002, then in 2003, Ashlin Stevens followed Shuppe as Ms. GC&SU. Last year, Brad Davis, representing the Student Ambassador Team, was crowned Mr. GC&SU.
