“Win a date with Tad Hamilton” is a hit

“Win a Date with Tad Hamilton” is the latest chick-flick to hit the big screen, and it surpassed all of my expectations.
The film is directed by Robert Luketic, who also directed the hit “Legally Blonde.” “Win a Date with Tad Hamilton” is a romantic comedy about a small town girl who wins a contest to go on a date with a movie star. The rebellious star is taken with her sweetness and charm.
Kate Bosworth plays Rosalee, a checkout cashier at the local Piggly Wiggly in rural West Virginia. Her best friend and manager of the Piggly Wiggly is Pete (Topher Grace), who is secretly in love with Rosalee. Rosalee’s favorite actor is Tad Hamilton (Josh Duhamel), who she has pegged as a genuine and moral gentleman, much like the characters he portrays in his movies. However, Tad is actually much wilder than he comes across in his films. He has a rebellious streak that leads him to smoke, drink alcohol and run around with a different girl every night. This is a far cry from the guy Rosalee thinks she is going out with, when she wins a contest to go on a date with Tad.
Rosalee flies out to Los Angeles to spend an evening with her celebrity dream-date, and although she comes across rather awkward in Tad’s presence; nonetheless, she attracts him with her good-girl charm.
After Rosalee returns from her trip, Pete decides the time has come for him to tell Rosalee about his feelings for her. However, who arrives to interrupt his talk with her but Tad Hamilton, who has flown all this way to spend time with Rosalee.
The film continues as Pete and Tad fight for the affections of unsuspecting Rosalee. The movie questions whether true love is found in a strong attraction and fantasy or in a deep friendship that has become something more. While Tad possesses cookie-cutter good looks and an exciting career, Pete has a love for Rosalee that is based on the foundation that he knows all of the qualities and random quirks that make her, her.
“Win a Date with Tad Hamilton” is a light-hearted movie that captures the depth of romance in a way many films today totally miss. The acting is decent by all, and in my opinion, Grace steals the screen in his believable portrayal of Pete. As my friends and I left the theater we agreed that instead of Tad Hamilton, we would much rather win a date with Topher Grace.
While the ending is fairly predictable, there were enough surprises to keep me completely engaged in the film. The movie most definitely has the appearance of a chick-flick; however, I have spoken to several guys who have seen the movie and have been just as impressed as I was. So, decide for yourself.
“Win a Date with Tad Hamilton” debuted in the third spot for the box office and, in its second week, has grossed 13.4 million dollars.
