Ittiwameethum is grateful for her time at GC&SU

Srisuda Ittiwameethum is known in these parts as Sue.
Sue is an exchange student at Georgia College & State University from Bangkok, Thailand. She is a junior, and her major is international political science.
Sue confesses that she chose to attend GC&SU because of its strategic location.
“I prefer the South because of the warmer climate,” said Sue.
She was also enticed by the small town, since this meant that the likelihood of many students being from her country was greatly reduced. Because fewer Thai students attend GC&SU, Sue believes there is a higher chance of creating strong ties with other students. Since her exchange program only lasts one year, Sue wants to get all that she can from being in America and more specifically, from this campus.
To Sue, Libby Davis at the International Education Center opened her eyes to the reality of what life would be like in America. She did not sugarcoat her advice but laid the truth out on the table for her to take. This advice meant a lot to Sue because it gave her an idea of what her limitations as an international student were and also what opportunities were open to her.
In the six months that Sue has been studying in America, she has yet to discover a trait or culture that coincides with what she is accustomed to back home in Thailand. Sue is bewildered by how people in America are more business and technologically oriented rather than spiritually, which is more typical in Thailand.
Sue is grateful for her experience at GC&SU because it has made her more assertive and active and has led her to speak her mind. She also realizes that many students on the campus are somewhat na?ve about other countries in the world, and she only wishes that this could somehow change. Just as she has learned from her fellow American students, she hopes that they too, can learn from international students.
