Can’t get much better
Around 400 students made the move from Napier and other residence halls on campus into the new Adams and Wells Residence Halls on W. Greene St. Friday, Jan. 16.
The move was scheduled two weeks after the beginning of the semester to make it an easier transition for students and residence staff.
With Well’s 101 rooms and Adam’s 121 rooms, ample space is available to meet the needs of the residents. The suite-style design features double or single rooms that have one bathroom for every two rooms and offers new amenities, such as elevators and bigger living spaces.
“I think that the move went well and my residents are happy,” said Adams Hall Residential Advisor Abbey Shockley. “The community style of Napier will be missed.”
Unlike the original Adams and Wells Halls, which were built in the late 1960s, the new ones are completely co-ed.
“I love the new dorms!” said freshman Jessica Carreto, “It really doesn’t faze me that boys live next door to us. It is more convenient because I love seeing them down the hall, but other than that,
it’s really no different.”
Napier Hall is the next building to be demolished and built anew as part of the $58 million new housing project. The dorm was originally built in 1972 and named after Miss Alice Napier, who taught at the college from 1893 through 1946.
“The move was very organized and my boxes were moved for me; the only set back was that other students had to live out of a suitcase because all their boxes had to be moved on Wednesday, but they couldn’t check in until Friday,”
