Bobcat baseball is in full swing

Georgia College & State University won two out of three in their season opening series against the University of West Florida.
In game one on Saturday, Jamie Langham’s RBI single in the top of the ninth inning plated Josh Campbell for the go-ahead run, and the Bobcats held on for the 7-6 victory.
GC&SU got off to an early 2-0 lead after sacrifice fly balls flew off the bats of Matt Nixon and Kyle Schisler in the first two innings. West Florida rallied with a run in the bottom of the second and two more in the third to take a 2-1 lead, but the Bobcats rebounded to regain the lead in the fourth inning on Schisler’s two-run home run to left field.
The Bobcats led 6-4 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Argonauts rallied with a pair of runs to tie the game at 6-all, which set up Langham’s heroics.
Langham went 4-5 with one RBI, while Schisler finished 1-3 with three RBIs to lead the Bobcats. Mike DeVeaux also had a productive outing at the plate, going 2-4 with a solo home run.
Brett Newton picked up the win in relief, while Phil Stillwell took the loss for West Florida.
In the second game, West Florida’s Patrick Cottrell delivered a one-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to help Owen Davis score for the game winning run in the 5-4 win over the Bobcats.
GC&SU led 4-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth, but West Florida took advantage of a Bobcat error to keep the inning alive and scored two runs to tie the game at 4-all.
Neither team scored in what was to be the seventh and final inning; therefore, forcing extra frames. Phil Stillwell pitched three innings of scoreless one-hit reliefs to earn the win for the Argonauts, while Michael Buck (0-1) took the loss for the Bobcats after allowing one run on five hits in three innings of relief.
John Caruso went 2-3 with one RBI, while Dan Habel went 2-4 with two RBIs to lead the Bobcats at the plate. Cottrell went 4-5 to lead West Florida.
GC&SU scored seven runs in the eighth inning to rally for an 11-5 victory over the University of West Florida Sunday at Pelican Park.
On Sunday, GC&SU led 4-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but three Bobcat errors led to three unearned runs to give West Florida (1-2) a 5-4 lead.
Nick Trainor’s two-run single in the eighth inning plated the tying and go-ahead runs for GC&SU, but the Bobcats picked up plenty of insurance later in the inning after using six hits and two errors to score seven runs.
Langham went 3-3 with two runs scored, while Trainor, Jose Leger and Caruso drove in two runs apiece. The Bobcats pounded out 14 hits in the game.
DeWayne Farmer (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the Bobcats, while Aaron Archambeau (0-1) took the loss for the Argonauts.
GC&SU plays its first home games Saturday and Sunday against top-ranked University of Tampa.
