Candidates apply for positions
Each year the Student Government officers at Georgia College & State University relinquish their positions to allow for a new round of officers.
The Internal/External Affairs Committee is diligently organizing the upcoming debates and elections. This year’s runners are preparing for their spirited debates, which will take place in Sodexho on Feb. 9 and 11. This is the time in which candidates express their plans for the next year and the changes they hope to make.
The debates set the stage for the elections that fall on Feb. 12 and 13. The election stand will be placed under a tent in between Parks and Atkinson Halls, where SGA members will help the prospective voters. Only students who have validated I.D.s for the spring 2004 semester will be allowed to participate. Students must be aware that they will choose next year’s leadership for SGA. They are in fact choosing the student voices that will present important issues to the GC&SU faculty and leaders.
“It is important to listen to issues and pick the person who will be a dynamic and active leader,” Sara Johnson, senator and secretary of academic travel funds, said.
The power lies in each student to change how GC&SU interacts with its student body, simply by voting for the SGA member who shares similar ideals. There are many ways to become involved in the school governance and one sure way to be heard is to listen to the proposals of each candidate and vote in the upcoming SGA elections.
