To the Editor

Dear Editor,

Fellow Students,
The Student Government Association (SGA) is a democratic institution and therefore, there exists a system of checks and balances. The legislative branch of SGA is vested with the power of impeachment for the violation of the SGA Constitution, the SGA By Laws, Georgia College and State University Code of Conduct, Georgia College & State University Honor Code or the Board of Regent’s Policy.
In mid-October, The Internal/External (I/E) committee of SGA — the committee in charge of the inner workings of SGA, felt that there was a need to examine the executive officers of SGA. This led to four articles of impeachment against me for what members of the I/E committee believed was a violation of our constitution. The SGA Vice President Mike Madison in accordance with our constitution called a Special Session for Dec. 3, 2003. On that day, the articles of impeachment were presented and after about 2 hours of deliberation, the SGA senate acquitted me of all charges.
Although the impeachment articles did created tension within members of SGA, we have put that issue behind us now and are back to the students’ business. We fully intend to come together as a united force to fulfill our mission statement, which is to be the voice of all students enrolled at GC&SU, and actively work to improve the quality of life for the student body, along with the university community as a whole.
