Athletes excel in classroom

Georgia College & State University athletes are winning in the classroom. More than half of the student-athletes made the Honor Roll for the fall semester as 76 Bobcats earned a 3.0 or better grade point average. The overall GPA for all ten sports was a 2.86 for the fall semester.
The Lady Bobcats softball program had the highest team GPA with a 3.41, while women’s tennis was second with a 3.14. Women’s cross country was third with a 3.04, followed by men’s tennis with a 3.02. The Lady Bobcats basketball team registered a 2.94 GPA, while golf and women’s soccer were tied for sixth with identical 2.88 grade point averages. Men’s cross country (2.86) was next, followed by baseball (2.70) and men’s basketball (2.48).
“I am extremely proud of the hard work our student-athletes have displayed in the classroom,” GC&SU Athletics Director Stan Aldridge said. “This is the largest number of student-athletes we have had on the honor roll. I am proud of our coaches for brining in student-athletes who can perform well in the classroom as well as the playing field.”
Four GC&SU athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA for the fall. Women’s Basketball player Breane Haggard, softball player Jenna Kubesch, soccer player Michelle Parr and golfer Sam Rauschenberg registered straight A’s last semester.
