“Pippin” hits the GC&SU stage

The Music and Theatre Department brings “Pippin” to the Georgia College & State University stage Thursday, Nov. 20 through Sunday, Nov. 23.
The musical will be presented in Russell Auditorium Thursday, Nov. 20 through Saturday, Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. The main stage production is directed by Dave Mason and Wendy Mullen and choreographed by Bonni Bigler. Leads are played by Desiree Dugger and Joey Villemez.
“Pippin” is a fairy tale musical that debuted on Broadway in 1972. The play is based on the book by Roger O. Hirson and music and lyrics are by Stephen Schwartz. The fable tells the story of Pippin, the son of Charlemagne, who is following his quest to finding a purpose in life.
“The audience will enjoy the choreography and the vocals,” said Dugger. “This is not your average musical. This musical will make you laugh and it will make you think. There are tons of singing, acting, dancing and plot twists.”
Mason encourages everyone in the GC&SU community to come see the show.
“I like this musical for its theatricality,” said Mason. “People who come to the show won’t expect some of the things we do in this production. Everyone should anticipate surprises.”
Dugger said that the cast has put many hours into the production, which should pay off on opening night.
“The cast has really worked hard,” said Dugger. “The result should be that the audience will truly be entertained. This musical is the overall entertainment package. The audience should leave with big smiles on their faces and will want to return to see it again.”
Admission for the musical is $10 for the general public, $6 for senior citizens, GC&SU faculty and non- GC&SU students, and $2 for GC&SU students with a valid ID. Advanced tickets are available. For more information, please call the Department of Music and Theatre office at 445-4226.
