It’s your right to know

As many of you know, last weekend Georgia College & State University hosted Parents’ Day and the annual Fall Fest. For these events, prospective students and current parents were able to see the true GC&SU campus, or so they thought.
I thought it was very nice how most of the orange mesh that decorated our campus for many weeks disappeared in a matter of days. All that had to be done was mention that parents and students interested in GC&SU were coming. If I knew that the campus would be cleaned up this fast then I would have gotten a parents’ weekend together much sooner; that way we wouldn’t have had to be inconveniced for so long. I can’t remember how long it’s been since the last time I saw the fountain actually working. Maybe it was Week of Welcome?
Whoever plans these events is right; anyone who saw all of the construction may have second thoughts about going here. If it’s such a sore sight, then why do we have to see it day after day? We’re the ones who actually pay tuition. Why can’t we always have the luxury of walking where we want and be able to take advantage of our beautiful campus? Instead we are detoured around John Deer and Bobcat tractors.
I know why they cleaned up in such a hurry. Probably because they didn’t want anyone to see the construction widely spread over campus. My question is what makes them think we, the students, do? Most of us are attracted to this school not only for its academics, but for the impressive campus.
We can’t go certain places because of the restricting orange mesh. The Napier parking lot had tons of the orange stuff surrounding it. Now, there is none to be seen since last weekend. The residents have been going down the aisles and reversing back down them for about a month now looking for parking places. It seems like it took the threat of parents seeing what we must go through every day for it to be removed.
I know the construction will be a good thing in the end. I can’t wait to see GC&SU when it is all done. We will have new dorms, a caf? and who knows what other wonderful things. However, for the time being, it is awkward to walk around; there must be a way we can make it a little better for the present students.
