‘Trick or Treaters’ come in all ages
It is Halloween and as trick-or-treaters prepare for bags of candy, Georgia College & State University students make plans for the holiday.
Students have a variety of ideas for how they will spend the evening. While some students feel that dressing up is just for kids, others disagree and plan to dig through their closets for costumes.
“I’m planning on dressing up as a fairy, going to a party and trick-or-treating,” said Trisha Thompson, senior mass communication major. “No one ever thinks I’m 22, so I take advantage of it at least once a year.”
“I’m going to dress up like my favorite teacher, Ms. Valerie Andrews,” said Andy Cisick, junior mass communication major. “Then we are both going to the bar. After that we are going to hit up a block party.”
Several student organizations are having parties Friday night to celebrate Halloween.
“I’m going to the Pi Kappa Phi Halloween party at the Opera House,” said Ashlei Mills, senior mass communication major. “I’m dressing up as a cat.”
Brenner Wicker, freshman nursing major, plans to dress up as a cowgirl and attend the Wesley Halloween party. The Wesley Campus Ministry will host a party at Brookins Farm at 8 p.m. The party will include food, games, a hayride and a costume contest.
“My plans for Halloween are to go to the Wesley Halloween party,” said Erin Watts, junior art major. “I’m dressing up as an elf from ‘The Lord of the Rings. After the party I may go see Thelonious play at Amici’s.”
Thelonious, a local rock band will be playing at Amici’s on Friday night at 10:30 p.m. There will be a $5 cover charge.
There will be a Halloween cemetery tour, sponsored by the GC&SU History Department at Memory Hill Cemetery. Tours begin at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for the general public and $7 for GC&SU students, faculty, staff and children under 10. Reservations are strongly recommended. Please call (478) 804-4414 for more information.
Alpha Psi Omega will present a “Haunted Maze” at West Campus through Saturday, Nov. 1. There will be a children’s tour from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Students and adults will begin touring the maze at 7 p.m. through midnight. Admission for the haunted maze is $5 for the general public and $4 for students with a college ID.
Other students plan to go home for the holiday.
“I am dressing up as a Hershey’s kiss and taking my cousins out trick-or-treating,” said Sarah Coggins, senior sociology major.
“I am going home to Conyers and I’ll hand out candy to trick-or-treaters,” said Kyle Burger, junior mass communication major.
With all of the different activities planned for Friday night, students are sure to have a spooky fun-filled evening.
