The Voice

Imagine studying Indian history and culture as you sit on the steps of the Taj Mahal. Picture learning about social change in West Africa from a remote fishing village in Ghana. Imagine taking introductory courses in the Chinese language as you gape at the enormity of The Great Wall.
The International Education Center can help you turn these dreams into a reality. Georgia College & State University offers twenty-five different study abroad programs in thirty-five different countries that range in length from ten days to eight weeks.
What if you want to go to China, but cannot speak Chinese? Don’t worry if you cannot speak the native language of the country where you wish to study. There are many universities in other countries that offer classes in English. In fact, the only countries where it is necessary to speak the language are some Spanish speaking countries and France.
Study abroad opportunities are offered during Maymester and in the summer. If you’re looking for the chance to enjoy a longer stay, many recommend studying abroad for the entire semester. Nine GC&SU students are currently enrolled this semester in universities all over the world.
How can students manage to pay for it? If you’re a typical college student, you probably don’t have thousands of dollars at your disposal. However, the trip may not be as impossible to fund as you might think.
If you are eligible, the HOPE Scholarship will pay for the cost of tuition for studying abroad. Also, check out the Weir/Wells Scholarships, they might be able to save you some money.
Taking the opportunity to study in another country will give you a different perspective on life. You will be able to increase your comprehension of another language, and learn how to work with different kinds of people. Studying abroad will also give you a new sense of independence which will help you prepare for everything to come in your life.
The deadline for applying to these upcoming programs is in mid-March. To find out more about the Study Abroad opportunities GC&SU offers, visit www.gcsu.edu/international.
So, go ahead and imagine yourself studying Archaeology in Malta, literature and mythology in Greece, or even art and history on a mountaintop town in Italy. Ciao!
