Upcoming challenge races to test students’ strengths

Georgia College & State University students will have an opportunity on Oct. 25 to put their strengths to the test at the Challenge at the Rock Adventure Race.
Hosted by the Sinclair Baptist Church Ministry, the event was organized to provide an effective and professional adventure race for students at GC&SU and GMC.
Event Organizer Jeff Eller said the event was planned to bring cohesion to the two campuses, as well as in student organizations. He also hopes to provide a positive atmosphere where the church can provide students with activities that are physically and mentally challenging.
“We believe that this endeavor will be one of many lessons involving learning in the outdoors, which is powerful and effective for providing sense and meaning out of life,” Eller said.
The event will include races in mountain biking, running and canoeing in the three categories of beginner, sport and expert racers. There will be five team slots per race.
“Team members do not participate in every event but chose to either run, bike or canoe,” Eller said.
He said additional activities like Frisbee golf will be offered throughout the day.
Eller said the main reason he got involved with the event was to see people gathering for a common purpose and competing for a common goal.
“Team efforts in planning the event and following through will provide key learning experiences and social interaction that will not be available through any other medium,” he said. “The race of life is modeled in this adventure race.”
Eller said the race shows the importance of faith, teamwork, discipline and one’s willingness to go beyond his or her own abilities in the race of life.
The maximum number of participants is 60 people, with 20 teams and five teams per division. For more information, visit www.active.com. A $40 registration fee is required for each team, which also includes a t-shirt and dinner at the event. Teams may consist of all female, male or co-ed teams.
