Cronvall leads Cats in tourney
Freshman Johan Cronvall finished at even par to help the Georgia College & State University golf team tie for seventh out of 20 teams at the North Shore Pfeiffer University Intercollegiate Tournament on Tuesday.
Cronvall carded rounds of 74 and 70 at the par 72 North Shore Beach and Golf Course; finishing with a tie for 13th overall. The Bobcats recorded very respectable rounds of 293 and 292 to finish with a two-day 585 to stay even with Barton College and defending national champion Francis Marion University.
Armstrong Atlantic State won the tournament by one stroke with a two-day team score of 574, edging Guilford College which finished with a 575. Pfeiffer University was third with a 577, followed by Carson-Newman at 578, St. Andrews Presbyterian at 581, and USC Aiken at 582.
Nova Southeastern’s Josh Green took home medalist honors after stroking rounds of 71 and 67 for a six-under par 138.
In addition to Cronvall, GC&SU had one other golfer in the top twenty, as Jose Martinez Medrano tied for 17th with rounds of 72 and 73 to finish with a one-over par 145. Teammates Carter Collins and John Tillery were tied for 46th with identical two-round scores of 148 to round out the top four for the Bobcats.
