The Pit vs. Chick-fil-A: students pick

While finals are just two weeks away, Georgia College & State University students must make a big decision each day on where to eat lunch: The Pit or Chick-fil-A.

Both restaurants are just a few feet away from each other, making the decision to eat a difficult one for students.

“It’s faster,” said freshman, Business major Destiny Elliot, on Chick-fil-A. “I like The Pit’s food more than Chick-fil-A, but The Pit takes too long and I don’t have a lot of time between classes.”

While Chick-fil-A offers the traditional chicken sandwich, there are items students tend to normally look right by.

“We offer fresh squeezed lemonade,” said Diana Deason, supervisor of Chick-fil-A. “Students probably choose Chick-fil-A because The Pit makes their food as students ask for it. They take longer to prepare, but that is not a bad thing.”

Avery Knox, night team leader of The Pit, mentioned that The Pit offers a bigger variety than Chick-fil-A.

“We freshly make everything to your convenience,” said Knox. “We might not know your name but we know what you like. We want to give students what they want when they come in.”

Besides the chicken sandwich, other interesting items on the menu, include: chick-n-strips, chicken salad sandwich, chicken nugget’s and waffle fries. Chick-fil-A’s on-campus hours are Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., with Chick-fil-A being closed on Sundays.

“I really like Chick-fil-A. The Pit’s food is really greasy and to me the meat is not good,” said freshman early childhood education major Kristi Greene.

The Pit’s menu has a big variety, with breakfast omelets like the Cajun chicken or meat lover’s omelet. Lunch items include: the Cuban sandwich, the New Yorker and the Deluxe grilled cheese sandwich. The Pit hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“I prefer The Pit. I really do not like the chicken,” said freshman undecided major, Dennis O’Keefe. “I don’t like the idea of mass produced chicken nugget’s. I think there is something wrong with that.”

Deason did suggest that both places were good choices for students to eat.

“I really think both places are good,” said Deason. “At Chick-fil-A, we try to have the food prepared for you, but The Pit works hard on making what the students want.”
