Leave it to me

With school winding down and finals just a week away, the pressure is definitely on. We’ve got tests to take, projects to finish, things to pack up, etc. And with just a couple of weeks left, it certainly does all start to pile up. I must admit that I do tend to worry a lot (about everything), and during this time of year it goes into overdrive.

My friend recently suggested that I listen to a new song called “The Remedy ( I Won’t Worry).” It makes perfect sense, and I think most college students can probably relate to it. Life is so tricky and I think a lot of times we waste time worrying about things that never even happen. I know I do at least.

The song says “I won’t worry my life away,” and I think that’s something everyone has to remind themselves not to do, from time to time. Sometimes we worry so much that we take away from the quality of the actual experience we’re going through. The song says, “the remedy is the experience.” Many times we go through things constantly worrying about how to fix the situation, when really it’s just going through that experience that we’re supposed to learn from.

The song also says, “the comedy is that it’s serious.” Have you ever gotten to that point when it’s four o’clock in the morning and you’re writing a research paper and all of the sudden the computer crashes? You feel like you could cry, but the truth is that’s the time when you should just go ahead and laugh. I know…it’s easier said than done, but that’s the time when you’ve just got to put things in perspective and realize that things could be much worse. They do say that laughter is the best medicine.

Another line says, “there’s no need to hurry when I’m making up my mind.” Right now we’re all making up our minds. I’ve changed my major three different times since freshman year, and yes…sometimes it does bother me that I won’t be graduating on time, but how much does that really matter in the end? Now is when we make the decisions that will effect the rest of our lives. But now is also the time to figure out who we are…and there’s no hurry in doing that.

The last line of the song says, “I say the tragedy is how you’re gonna spend the rest of your nights with the light on, so shine the light on all your friends, well it all amounts to nothing in the end.” Now is the time to enjoy life. Sure we have to be serious every now and then, but don’t spend so much time focusing on what might happen that you forget about what is.
