Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor,
The shining city on the hill shines brightly on this spring night, and their flag flies high. Their mighty armies prepare to liberate another oppressed land. The people of the city know that freedom is not a privilege reserved for those who can fight for it. Rather, freedom is the right of every man, woman, and child born into the world. Defending and promoting freedom is not the right of the great city; it is their responsibility.
The prosperous towns that surround the city enthusiastically accept the benefits of a free and secure society, but they are not willing to bear the cost of this freedom. They thoughtlessly reap the benefits of a greater nation’s courage.
When a courageous leader from one town supports the aims of the city, he is mocked as a fool, and maligned as a warmonger. His own people do not support him. Their fathers once fought alongside the great city, but, sadly, they did not teach their children that freedom comes at a price.
Still other towns seek to stop the city’s righteous action. They conspire with enemies, obstruct, and undermine. They do not know that freedom has a price, because they never had to pay. The mighty armies from the great city have secured their freedom.
Despite this, the mighty armies of the great city proceed on with their mission.
The shining city on the hill shines brightly on this spring night, and our flag flies high. Our mighty armies will secure freedom for as many people as possible, because it is our responsibility. The righteousness of our cause is self-evident: the people who malign us are exercising a right that we secured for them. As long as misguided and cowardly people are free to denounce us, our great city will shine brightest of all.
