DePaolo moves on but how does GC&SU?

With Dr. Rosemary DePaolo’s recent resignation, the Georgia College & State University community is now left to wonder who will fill her shoes and what changes may come as a result.
Executive Assistant to the President and Director of University Relations, Max Allen, said the process of finding a new president involves the chancellor and the Board of Regents.

“The chancellor will appoint a search committee to look for candidates all over the country,” Allen said. “This search committee usually includes representation from faculty, staff, students, alumni and foundation members.”

According to the Board of Regents Policy Manual for the University System of Georgia, “the Special Regents’ Committee will conduct interviews – providing an opportunity for the chancellor to also interview each candidate – and provide its evaluation and advice to the chancellor, who will make the final recommendation to the full Board of Regents.”

“I think the chancellor is thinking about how best to start this process,” DePaolo said. “He cares about the school and he wants what is best for it.”

DePaolo also said she doesn’t expect positions to be affected by her resignation.

Allen said his position will still be here.

“My job involves several things and if the Chancellor decides he would like for me to be involved in the process of finding a new president, I will gladly help,” Allen said.

“If there is any time we need to have our leadership team in place, it’s during a transition,” said Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculties, Dr. Anne Gormly.

DePaolo’s new position as chancellor at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington will begin in July. She will be leaving GC&SU at the end of June.

“It is not known at this time when the new president will be appointed,” Allen said, however, that someone should be named as an interim replacement for Dr. DePaolo, before she leaves for Wilmington in the summer.
