The No. 7 ranked Georgia College & State University baseball team collected 14 hits in the 16-8 victory over Alabama-Huntsville Wednesday afternoon at John Kurtz Field to hand the Chargers their second loss of the 2-game series.
The Bobcats defeated UAH Tuesday night 10-5. GC&SU improved to 20-9 on the season.
GC&SU’s starting pitcher, Travis Spell (3-2), looked to be in trouble early as UAH (15-15) scored four runs on seven straight Charger hits to take an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first. The Bobcats scored two runs in the bottom of the third before exploding in the fourth with eight runs off of seven hits, along with five Charger errors to take the 10-4 lead. UAH squeezed a run across in the fifth and sixth innings to cut the Bobcat lead by four to 10-6. GC&SU responded, however, adding six runs in the eighth, and held off a late Charger attack in the ninth for the 16-8 victory.
Spell earned the win for the Bobcats after tossing eight complete innings, allowing six earned runs with seven strikeouts.
Jose Leger went 4-6, including three singles and a three-run bomb in the bottom of the eighth to finish with two runs scored and four RBIs, while Tyler Folsom went 2-4 with a pair of singles and two RBIs to lead the Bobcats at the plate. Eddie Campbell also scored twice with three runs batted in. Davis West went 3-5 with a two-run homer in the ninth to lead the Chargers.
