$1,747 stolen from Porter

More than $1,700 was discovered missing from an office in the Porter Fine Arts building by a secretary in the building, March 14.

Deputy Director of Public Safety Richard Goodson said that according to an original report taken the morning of March 17, just over $1,747 was reported to be missing from the building. The money reportedly consisted of proceeds from gate sales from a theater production that occurred around March 10.

An investigation into the crime started Monday and is still in its early stages.

“Right now we are getting statements and we will move on from there,” said Director of Public Safety Ken Vance.

Vance said that more about the issue should be known next week.

If the money was indeed stolen, the person responsible could face some pretty hefty charges, according to Goodson.

“They could be subject to theft by taking on a felony level,” Goodson said.

He said there could also be a possibility of administrative action towards the individual responsible, since the total amount was over $500.

Chair of the Department of Music and Theatre Dr. Richard Greene refused to comment on the situation.

Anyone with information regarding this situation should contact Public Safety at 445-4400 or 445-4054.
