From another perspective

I participated in the International Dinner Saturday. Not only did I help serve two entrees, but also I walked in the fashion show and helped sing the theme song, “From a distance,” by Bette Midler.

I enjoyed being a part of this function. For the fashion show, I wore a kimono and represented the Japanese culture. The entire International Club did a wonderful job with the dinner. As always, the food was delicious, especially the Flan from Argentina. I just could not get enough of it!

The performances were wonderful. Marielle and Nate sang an inspiring Swahili song. The performers for the last dance even invited the audience to dance. It was great seeing faculty, staff and the community join in especially Harold Jenkins. If you missed out on this experience, then you missed out on a way to travel the world without leaving Milledgeville.

Speaking of food, I was rather disappointed by the efforts of our campus dining services for the season of Lent. During the season, Catholics are not allowed to eat meat items on Friday. The cafeteria had one fish option last Friday. This fish option was a fried fish sandwich, which isn’t very healthy. Last year, the cafeteria had at least three options. I remember them having some form of white fish on the Classics line, shrimp on the International line and a fried fish sandwich on the Grill line. I encourage the dining services to be more flexible for those observing the season of Lent.

While I am talking about the season of Lent, are we excused from class on Good Friday if we attend mass? This day is very important not only to Catholics, but others also. If a person attends a mass on this day, he or she should be excused from class. Jesus died on Good Friday, and anyone should be excused to observe and thank him for giving up his life for the forgiveness of sins.

On another note, I wish our college would move spring break to another week in March. The first of March is usually too cold to visit the beach. Besides most of the other colleges within close vicinity of this college have their spring breaks at a different time in March. This makes it difficult for students to hang out with students from other colleges. I would have preferred to have it this week, so I could enjoy St. Patrick’s Day and see some of my friends from the University of Georgia. But at least I made money over Spring Break.

Shout out to my Gamma Sig brother and sisters, because our formal is this weekend, and we are going to have so much fun!
