Womack’s single helps ‘Cats past TU
Ron Womack delivered a run scoring single in the top of the twelfth inning and later scored an insurance run on a throwing error to help 13th ranked Georgia College & State University get by Thomas University 7-5 on the road Wednesday evening. GC&SU (17-7) snapped a two game slide in its longest game of the season.
The score was tied at 3-3 after nine innings and stayed that way until the top of the eleventh inning when John McDonald tripled in a pair of runs to put the Bobcats ahead 5-3. Thomas University would battle back in the bottom of the frame on a two run homer by Gerardo Santiago to knot the score again.
J.J. Jones led off the top of the twelfth inning with a single and later scored on Womack’s base hit for the go-ahead run. Michael Buck (2-0) retired all four batters he faced in relief to pick up the win. McDonald finished the day 2-5 at the plate, while Matt Nixon and Eddie Campbell each went 2-5 with one RBI for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats return to action next Wednesday at 5 p.m. in a make-up game with Brewton-Parker at John Kurtz Field.
