Over 40 countries’ foods at International Dinner
Students from around 40 countries will prepare a feast of exotic foods from their homelands for the 18th annual International Dinner at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 15 in the Centennial Center at Georgia College & State University.
“The International Dinner is Milledgeville’s annual gala event where people from different backgrounds come together to celebrate a variety of cultural heritages in an evening filled with food, music and dancing,” said Libby Davis, international student advisor. “The dinner showcases our talented international students and highlights the diversity at GC&SU. The International Club members work extremely hard to bring the world to Milledgeville on that night, so that each person who attends the dinner can enjoy something new and learn about a different culture.”
The International Club is one of the largest student organizations with a 110 members.
“At our club, Poland meets Burundi and Thailand meets Ukraine with a smile, which is so scarce in this world of tension and trauma,” said Rima Chaudhri, International club president. “Mutual tolerance, life-long friendship, wonderful companionship and an extraordinary international flavor are what we bring to the GC&SU campus.”
Masters of ceremony are Mai Yang of the U.S. and Danny Nahimana from Burundi.
The buffet lines will open at 7 p.m. After the dinner, the ceremony will kick off with a couple of speeches and a video, entitled “Making of the dinner,” compiled by Joshua Kitchens and company.
There will be a performance by the Bobcat Brass ensemble and an international fashion show, which will feature traditional costumes worn by international students. Along with the fashion show there will be Indian, Japanese, African and American dance performances; music from Spain, Southeast Asia and Africa; comedy; poetry reading and much more.
Tickets for general admission are $15, while GC&SU student tickets are $8, with a valid student I.D.
