Leave it to me
Well, spring break has come and gone, and we are now in the final stretch. There’s only about six weeks of classes left before we say hello to summer. But if you look outside, you might think summer has already arrived. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, the grass is green and everything is absolutely beautiful. Then you close the window and look in front of you and see that your textbook is still sitting there just waiting to be read. Still haven’t opened it, have ya? Back to reality. Yep, spring is definitely here and with that comes spring fever and the complete lack of motivation that we find upon us every year during this time.
Every year for about a week after spring break I could just swear that there is a beach in my backyard – no such luck. But I think everyone seems to feel this way. It’s just really hard to get back into the swing of classes and tests after such a nice vacation. The workload we get around this time doesn’t exactly make it any easier. Everything is starting to wind down, but you know what that means – assignments are due, tests are being given and it’s time to crack down, just when the sun is beginning to shine. And this year spring fever has brought me just that – a fever, a bad cough and a headache. Oh well, at least the sun is out.
My roommate and I, are even a little bitter towards the people we see out enjoying the great weather because we have so much schoolwork to do. Do they not have class? It’s sad but true, we’re jealous. I’m happy for them, though. That was me just a couple of years ago – not a care in the world once spring came. But there comes a point when you have to start thinking about getting things in line for graduation and that means the warm sun and cool breeze of spring time aren’t quite as promising as they used to be.
But in all seriousness, this really is my favorite time of year. It seems like the campus just comes alive during this time of year. Students can be seen on front campus playing frisbee or just enjoying a nice walk. Music can be heard from cars with passengers just joyriding with their windows rolled down. Sometimes it’s great just to sit on the front porch chatting with friends.
And then there are the pool parties. Whether it’s an eight-feet deep pool or one of those inflatable kiddy pools from Wal-Mart, students are always ready to take a swim, or at least get their feet wet.
So to everyone who is suffering from spring fever, just know that you are not alone. All of us are battling the constant thoughts of fun in the sun that plague us while we’re trying to get our work done. But do get out and enjoy the sun. Just a few minutes of it can really brighten your day! And if you have to study, you might as well get a tan at the same time.
…And on another note, I would like to say a quick Happy Birthday to my roommate Amy Rary. Happy Birthday Amy!
