GC&SU softball improves to 18-0
The Georgia College & State University softball team swept Albany State, 18-0 and 17-1, on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader to improve to 18-0 in the season. Both games were called in the 5th inning due to the run-rule.
In game one, senior Cathy Chandler (5-0) pitched a complete game in the two-hit shutout with 8 strikeouts to earn the 18-0 win against the Lady Rams. Amy Davenport went 3-4 with a triple, while Heather Jones went 2-3 with a double and a triple to lead GC&SU at the plate. Davenport and Jones combined for 9 of the 18 runs batted in.
Sophomore Brook Harrison (4-0) picked up the win in game two after only allowing one hit and one run with a career high of 11 strikeouts. Offensively, freshman Aundrea Baker and senior Rebecca Heinicka accounted for 9 runs batted in as both players hit a grand slam to propel the Lady Bobcats in the 17-1 victory. Baker went 2-3 with a double, while Heinicka went 1-2 at the plate. Davenport also went 2-4 with an RBI.
