V.I.T.A. provides free tax assistance

The Volunteer Income Tax Association (or V.I.T.A.) may be new to GC&SU, but it promises to relieve a lot of our stresses this tax season.

The program was formed as a partnership with the GC&SU School of Business and the IRS, in the hopes of providing free tax return preparations for the staff and students, while also allowing Accounting majors to receive important hands-on experience. Students participating in the program received 15 hours of training, and must take a test by the IRS before they are allowed to prepare tax returns. Students may participate by being in Dr. Skinner’s Tax Class, the GC&SU Accounting Club, or for academic credit through BIDS 3705.

On Saturday February 15, Saturday February 22, and Saturday March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., students and staff may have their tax returns prepared by the newly qualified Accounting majors on the first floor of Atkinson Hall. Be advised that you will need your W-2 form, last year’s tax returns, documentation of any interest-bearing accounts, and the social security numbers of any dependents you may have. Also, any student wishing to have their refund deposited directly into their bank account must bring a deposit slip with the account number on it.
