Philosophy major under consideration
Look out Aristotle, Georgia College & State University has some philosophers of its own.
A preliminary proposal to establish a Philosophy major at GC&SU is currently under consideration at the Board of Regents Office. A final proposal is being put together by the Department of Government and Sociology. This will then be submitted to the Regents office pending approval of the preliminary proposal.
There has been a recent increase in students enrolled in philosophy courses currently offered. GC&SU already provides a philosophy minor for students, which means no additional faculty would be needed to institute this major.
“Philosophy is at the core of Liberal Arts. We do already have the resources for it,” said Assistant Professor of Philosophy Dr. Daniel Fernald.
Included in the final proposal will be SGA’s action in passing this resolution. This will be used to show student support for the addition of the major.
“As to how soon this major will be available to students at GC&SU depends on the promptness of the Board of Regents,” said Academic Affairs Committee chairman Gary Sanders.
