Alexandra is in the house
Homecoming week will kick off with lots of laughs Monday, Feb. 17 when the Campus Activities Board welcomes comedian Alexandra House to Georgia College & State University.
House is a comedian with Sophie K. Entertainment, INC. According to the company’s website, she is a graduate of Kutztown University in Pennsylvania; however, she moved to New York shortly after graduating to pursue a career in comedy. She performs regularly at Stand Up New York and has also performed at Caesar’s Palace in Atlantic City.
She has some acting experience, having appeared in the feature films “For Love of the Game” and “Music of the Heart.”
On the Sophie K. website, House said she is not the “typical stand-up comedian.”
“I don’t have a therapist, I only wear black to funerals and I have a positive outlook on life-maybe I should see a shrink!” she said.
She has also performed on ABC’s “The View.”
CAB decided to contract House after members saw her showcase at the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA), South conference in North Carolina.
“She really impressed us,” said Jessica Ward, CAB’s assistant director of relations and recruitment.
Ward said it worked out well that House would be in this area during the week of Homecoming.
Since House is young, Ward said college students should be able to relate well to her comedy. She was impressed with House upon meeting her.
“She’s very personable. It was very impressive,” she said. “She’s more than just a stage performer.”
CAB Director Will Dennison said the CAB representatives at the conference were all very entertained by House.
“One of the reasons we’re bringing her is because we try to provide a wide variety of entertainers on campus,” said Dennison. “It’s been a while since we’ve had a female perspective on campus so I’m excited about seeing the spin she puts on things.”
Assistant Director of Administration Precious Jones also saw House’s performance at the NACA South Conference.
“It’s clean, wholesome comedy,” she said.
CAB Advisor Suzette Zompetti said she thinks people are in for a real treat. “Alex House is one of the funniest female comedians in the business, so students should prepare to laugh a lot!” she said.
The performance will be in the Maxwell Student Union Lounge at 8 p.m. Feb. 17.
“I thing it’s going to be an extraordinary kickoff for homecoming,” Ward said.
