New cornerstones in hand for Student Affairs Council

The fate of designs to represent Georgia College & State University’s new cornerstone themes will soon be in the hands of the Student Affairs Council.

The cornerstones will be used on various printed materials from GC&SU announcing events and activities on campus.

Mitch Clarke, associate director of University Relations and Jon Scott, GC&SU print shop manager, put their heads together about what should be represented by each icon.

Then, it was up to Scott to put those ideas in print.

According to Dr. Bruce Harshbarger, vice president of Student Affairs and dean of students, the four cornerstones, or symbols will represent: Global Issues and Diversification; Service and Civic Engagements; Fine Arts and Wellness.

When designing each icon Scott said he “went with what (he) felt would convey the message.”

Clarke mentioned other criteria that each design was sure to meet.

“We wanted something small, simple and easily recognizable,” he said adding that the designs will serve as “a visual way of helping students recognize the cornerstones.”

The Student Affairs Council will meet this month to vote on proposed designs.

Serving on the Student Affairs Council are: Harshbarger, chair; Dr. Paul Jahr, assistant vice president for Student Affairs; Student Government Association President Keith Woodruff; three student representatives and four faculty representatives.
