McGraw’s latest release brings fresh new sound

Tim McGraw is one of country music’s premier artists, and he has proven himself once again with his latest release, “Tim McGraw and The Dance hall Doctors.”

This CD is the first on which McGraw has used his touring band, The Dancehall Doctors. It certainly paid off. The CD has much more of a raw sound than a studio band could have provided.

The CD’s first release, “Red Ragtop,” did pretty well on country radio. It’s got a great background guitar sound. The latest release, “She’s My Kind of Rain,” is a beautiful ballad. It’s easy to get hooked on. Both of the first releases have a much different sound than we have heard from McGraw in the past.

Many of the songs that have yet to be released are sure to be hits. My favorite song on the CD is McGraw’s cover of the old Elton John hit, “Tiny Dancer.” Though Tim McGraw and Elton John are definitely not the most likely combination, the result is one great song. I’m not usually a fan of covers, but McGraw captured the brilliance that Elton John first found on this song.

One of the more traditional tracks is called “Home.” It’s a simple song that recalls family traditions and good old- fashioned fun.

Another of my favorite selections is “Sing Me Home.” McGraw obviously likes it too. It was the title of his television special that aired a couple of months ago. The song talks about how we sometimes have to leave a place to find out where we really want to be. One of the lyrics says,
“Sometimes you don’t know where you’re from ’till you’re gone.” Much like “Home,” it reflects on how great it is to get back home. Two of the other songs on the CD are great ballads. McGraw’s vocal skills shine on these selections. “I Know How to Love You Well” and “All We Ever Find” are sweet and simple songs that bring a great sound to the CD.

Some may say that McGraw’s latest release is a crossover album. The songs have much more of a pop sound than those of past releases; however, it still has that great country sound that McGraw is known for. It is uncertain whether it should be classified as country or pop. In either case, the bottom line is that it’s just good music.
