Bobcat Nights bring excitement to campus
The Campus Activities Board offers excitement for Georgia College & State University students through upcoming Bobcat Nights.
CAB hosted its first of six Bobcat Nights on Jan. 24 with “Rave It Up.” Techno music and an oxygen bar highlighted the night.
Freshman Jeff Suchomol attended the event.
“I enjoyed the free food and drink. They had some lights and a small dance floor,” said Suchomol. He observed the oxygen bar but was unable to try it out.
“You place the oxygen tube into your nose and you have a choice of different smells. You wear some glasses that flash different things in your eyes,” he said.
Precious Jones, assistant director of Administration, was pleased with the turnout.
“We had a little over 120 students come, mostly in spurts. It was a good kick off for the semester,” said Jones.
Included in CAB’s lineup for the remaining Bobcat Nights are “Wild, Wild West”, “Mardi Gras Madness” and “Beach Blanket Bingo.”
Jones encourages all the students to attend the upcoming events.
“The students pay an activity fee for us to plan these programs. I would encourage them to come. It’s a positive way to have fun and a safe alternative. Its also a good way for students to get together and meet new people,” said Jones.
“If people go and have fun and make it memorable, then they will tell others about it. Then more people will start coming to the events and staying here on the weekends,” said Suchomol.
Feb. 7 will mark the second Bobcat Night of the semester with “Wild, Wild West.”
“Wild, Wild West” will feature a wide array of good ol’ western fun.
Students can attempt to have their way with a mechanical bull or, for the more grounded a chance of winning the lasso contest. There will also be line dancing and the showing of Will Smith’s Wild, Wild West.
Freshman Kyle Hood plans on attending for a very specific reason.
“All I know is chicks dig cowboys. Cowboys ride bulls,” said Hood.
Jones is also very excited about this event, but most likely for different reasons.
“It’s going to be an awesome event. You will look at the bull and think you can ride it, but it’s going to throw you off,” said Jones. “We had a good turn out last year. It was part of Midnight Breakfast. This year we have made it its own event because of the success.”
CAB will also be having a week of homecoming Feb. 17 through the 22.
“We are doing things a little different this year. We are having a whole
week of homecoming just like it was in high school,” said Jones.
During the week of events students will have the chance to hear comedian Alexandra House, dance along to a step and talent show and listen to Milledgeville’s Battle of the Bands. The winner of the Battle of the Bands will play a full concert at this year’s Spring Fling. The week of fun will close Saturday night at the GC&SU Homecoming Basketball Game. Following the game will be the annual Homecoming Dance and announcement of Mr. and Ms. GC&SU.
