Piedmont Wind Ensemble to perform at Max Noah
Georgia College & State University’s music department eagerly anticipates an upcoming concert by the Piedmont Wind Ensemble.
The Piedmont Wind Ensemble is Atlanta’s premier woodwind quintet. The ensemble will be performing in Max Noah Recital Hall, Monday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
The wind instruments that will be used in this concert are the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and French horn.
The ensemble will be performing pieces from several composers, including Zaninelli, Hindemith, Milhaud, Danzi and Ibert. This will be the Piedmont Wind Ensemble’s first performance at GC&SU.
“We try to get a variety of different groups, especially instrumental groups, here to have the students exposed to different instruments,” said Dr. Maureen Horgan, assistant professor of music and theatre. “We haven’t had a wind group in awhile, so we booked the Piedmont Wind Ensemble because they are the best known group in Georgia.”
The five musicians are all free-lance artists and have been performing together for over twenty years. They are all full time performers. The Piedmont Wind Ensemble musicians have performed with the Atlanta Ballet, Atlanta Opera, Atlanta Symphony and the Gwinnett Philharmonic.
Students and faculty interested in 20th century chamber music will not want to miss this event.
“I’ve never seen this ensemble perform before, but the composers for their pieces are wonderful!” said Horgan. “These are fine musicians and it will be a wonderful program.”
The concert is cosponsored by Arts Unlimited.
General admission for this show is $6.00, $3.00 for senior citizens, non-GC&SU students and GC&SU faculty and staff. Admission for GC&SU students is free with a valid ID.
