New construction calls for seating alternatives
The latest phase of expansion of the dining hall in Maxwell Student Union began Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. and will be completed near the end of May.
“Due to the increased population at Georgia College & State University, additional seating in the dining hall is needed. This project will create seating and much more,” said Roger Busby, general manager of Sodexho Campus Services.
“The construction will require workers to move the wall inward. This move will take up a considerable amount of seating,” said Busby.
During the construction period, MSU dining hall will have very limited seating. The following alternatives have been suggested by the Sodexho Campus Services: utilize Hoke Dining Room for additional seating, dine during “off-hours,” be considerate of others, if you see people looking for places to sit and you are finished with your meal, consider giving them your seat, make new friends, be open and willing to share your table with others.
The change concerns students who are already having a problem with space in the cafeteria.
“The only problem I can see with the construction is the overcrowding in the dining room,” said Amanda Elder, a second year student. “I have to search for a seat.”
But others have no problems with the change.
“The construction really has not affected me. I just use the Hoke Dining Room if I cannot find a seat,” said first year student Jessica Trammell.
When the construction is complete, MSU will house a state-of-the-art banquet room that will seat over one third more students.
“The new space will showcase top of the line sound and lighting systems. The room will be just what Georgia College & State University needs to hold group meetings and banquets,” said Busby. “Although the construction period will be rough, it will be worth the inconvenience.”
