Cultural Diversity weekend set
Georgia College & State University is holding its first ever Cultural Diversity Weekend Feb. 1 and Feb. 2.
The event is meant to give high school students, especially those of color, an opportunity to learn, first-hand, the Georgia College and State University educational experience.
The event is mainly intended for juniors and seniors in high school who are working towards a College Prep Program. According to Joffery Blair, (the Assistant Director of Admissions); however, the event is open to everyone.
It will include a campus tour, a basketball game and a Greek step show. It will also comprise of an admission interview, meetings with the professors and staff, meetings with current students and information about financial aid & scholarships.
“With the support from GC&SU faculty, staff and students, we can all work together to make this weekend a huge success,” said Blair.
Applicants have until Jan. 29, 2003 to submit their registration forms along with a high school transcript to the office of Admissions
High school seniors who intend to participate in the event are required to have a minimum of 960 on the SAT or a 20 on the ACT and a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Juniors must have a 3.0 cumulative or higher to attend.
The cost to attend the overnight program is $10. This initial cost includes dinner, a t-shirt, basketball tickets and all social events.
GC&SU is organizing transportation for those who need it from Atlanta, Augusta and Macon. In addition to that, Hotel accommodations will be provided for students attending from outside the area.
