Norah Jones adds flavor to music business
If you’re tired and fed up with sounds of Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera and Nelly, I recommend that you take a break from that stuff with Norah Jones’ new album, “Come Away with Me.” This album has such a refreshing sound to it. Jones’ music has been described as a “unique blend of jazz and traditional vocal pop with hints of bluesy country and contemporary folk.” If you listen to Top 40 radio or watch MTV or VH1, you’re probably familiar with Jones’ sultry voice and skillful piano-playing in the album’s first single, “Don’t Know Why.”
“Come Away with Me” is Jones’ second album. In October 2000, she recorded “First Sessions,” which was intended as a demo session. Because of the overwhelming response to the result of this demo session, “First Sessions” was allowed for a limited release of a six-song CD. Don’t get ahead of yourself and go running out to buy Jones’ first CD; “First Sessions” is out of print and has become a collector’s item. But definitely get a copy of Jones’ “Come Away with Me.”
The first track on this album is the radio-popular hit single, “Don’t Know Why.” It is followed by 13 sensual and laid-back tracks, including “Feelin’ the Same Way,” “Come Away with Me” and “Nightingale,” that are perfect for times when you feel like taking a break and relaxing.
My roommate, Sarah, says the fifth song and title track of Jones’ album, “Come Away with Me,” will be the wedding song of the year. She may be right. It’s got this soft, seductive, soothing sound to it. It’s definitely a song for any romantic. If any guys are thinking about proposing, this would probably be some good background music for popping the question. And if you’re planning to get hitched anytime soon and you’re having a hard time finding “your” song, you should check out this song.
Jones’ album has a mellow, elegant sound…and it’s good. I recommend it.
