Koresh Dance Company to perform at GC&SU
The Koresh Dance Company, a Philadelphia-based dance team praised for its unique, high-energy style, performed at Georgia College & State University’s very own Russell Auditorium Thursday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m.
The company, founded by choreographer Ronen Koresh, presented a very modern blend of ballet, modern dance and jazz all in one. Koresh founded this company to provide opportunity and income for young professionals. The company has been dancing since 1991, and the team’s inventive performances have attracted nationwide audiences and are often sold out. The performances are notorious for not only being uniquely complex, but also beautiful.
“We actually saw [The Koresh Dance Company] showcased at a booking conference and realized that they were a wonderful dance company,” said Executive Director of Allied Arts, Randy Cannon “They had other moves than the traditional ones, and are very innovative with their style.”
Therefore, Cannon thought it would be great for the company to dance here in Milledgeville.
“Since [The Koresh Dance Company] is young, GC&SU students can relate to them very well,” said Cannon.
He hopes that this factor will draw as many GC&SU to students come as possible.
To get the company to come to Milledgeville, it cost approximately $10,000; however, the Allied Arts company did not have to pay the full price.
“We received a grant which brought the price down, making it more affordable,” said Cannon.
This is the company’s first time performing in Milledgeville. Cannon said if they are particularly wonderful, GC&SU will probably have them back again.
In addition to the performance, a masterclass conducted by Koresh Dance Company will be held in the Russell Auditorium and is free and open to the public for observation or participation. It was originally scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 16 at 2:30 p.m., but has recently been changed to Friday, Jan. 17 at 9 p.m. due to the company’s travel schedule.
