Spears and arrows
If you read Ryan’s editorial above, you would already know that next semester I will be taking over the advertising manager’s position. Hence, this is my last editorial. I have learned so much this semester about writing, editing and reader feedback. The most important thing that I learned while writing editorials is not everyone agrees with your opinion, and some people can be very outspoken when a disagreement arises. That’s okay though, reader feedback is all part of the learning process, and I will be the first to admit that I am still learning.
I am very excited about taking over the advertising manager’s job, but I am saddened that the job has become vacant because that means that Kent Henderson will be leaving our staff.
Kent is graduating this month, and he is going to be missed. Since I am taking over Kent’s job, I have had a chance to spend a lot of time with him lately. He has taught me everything I need to know about my job, but more than that, I consider him to be a friend. I think that he is a great guy, except when he is hitting me with phone books. I wish him the best of luck in his new job and upcoming marriage.
Joseph (J.T) Tkacik is also leaving the staff. He is stepping down so he has enough time to work at the Union Recorder, finish school in time to graduate and plan his wedding. He has kept me on my toes this semester and kept me laughing. You never know what that kid is going to say, and that’s the best part. I really hope he comes by the office every once in a while next semester to take care of that “stupid floor sign.”
Even though I am going to miss those two, I am very excited about our new variety editor, Leah Stanley. I’m sure she will read this and “feel very uncomfortable,” but I just have to say that I think her writing style and her sense of humor will make a great edition to the staff.
I couldn’t think of a better topic for my last editorial than to write about all the wonderful people that The Colonnade will be losing; however, I think that the staff will bounce back and be just as good next semester. I just have one last thing to say before Spears and Arrows comes to an end, Merry Christmas everyone.
