Relationship realities…
Isn’t it Romantic…?
We are a dying breed. The few hopeless people who feel that romance is not dead. We cling to the theory of a happy ending, and we laugh in excitement over true love and fate. But in a world of vast disappointments, how can we survive? If we are constantly told to recognize reality, where and when do we allow ourselves to dream of romance?
No one sex has it over the other in this category. Although we might like to think that women are better at it, men do have a way of surprising us. But how in the midst of cynicism and sarcasm can romance exist?
Perhaps we should go back to the time where words meant more than material things. Sometimes opening your heart can mean more to a person than any gift. Now let’s not be fooled. A ring of any size will easily do the trick.
But in the long run, you have but a metal object that means nothing, if you know not of the deep heartfelt love behind it.
Romance -like chivalry- is not dead. It would be a poet’s dream for us to all lay beautifully under the sun with the one we love and take in nature’s entire splendor, but we must first accept that we are human and as such live in reality.
But for a brief moment, I would like to think that the few who, like me, believe in romance know it when they see it. So over the holiday season, think of what gift is truly important. It doesn’t have to come from a store, nor is it something you order online, but maybe, just maybe, it’s something you’ve had in you heart for a long, long time.
