Loud and clear
Well the time has finally come where I have to bid you all a much-regretted adieu.
I am stepping down as The Colonnade’s Variety editor, and passing the job onto Leah Stanley. Not because I didn’t like the job, I loved my position here, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. I am getting married June 7 after I graduate in the spring, and I thought that it would be in my best interest to start freelancing and make some money before the big day.
Leah Stanley will be taking over my spot, and I think that you all will be very pleased with her work. She is a talented writer, organized and level headed, all qualities that a competent section editor should have.
While I am leaving you as the Variety section editor I will still be writing for this publication as a staff reporter covering events on this campus and beyond.
From doughnuts to roller coasters, I have covered a good many topics in my editorials and I must say that I am disappointed that this will be my last. Perhaps I will be able to sneak a few in next semester if there is room. The thing about editorial writing that really struck my fancy was the fact that I was free to voice my opinion about whatever I wanted, and be creative while doing it. This is something that is taboo in a lot of news reporting, so it was a nice outlet and gave me an opportunity to be somewhat creative.
One of the most memorable moments of my brief stay here on the editorial staff was our trip to Orlando. While I was there I made some great contacts for future jobs, and attended some very informative journalism sessions. I also got to ride Space Mountain six times, played professional tennis, and thanks to Kent Henderson our advertising manager, got to experience landing in 4-foot deep bushes…upside down…twice.
I am really going to miss my position here, and I hope that I brought some interesting things to the variety section. That was my goal, and I aim to please.
