From the cheap seats
Before I start on my topic this week, I’d like to say a few farewells.
This semester has been a lot of things to me. At times it’s been very stressful, sad and sometimes a lot of fun. Some of this stress and fun can be attributed to the same place and people.
The Colonnade and its staff have provided me with some of the most entertaining moments of the semester.
Next semester will be different with the leaving of our current Variety editor, Joseph Tkacik (JT) and our current ad manager, Kent Henderson.
Kent is graduating later this month and will be moving away to a brand new job that he is really exited about. JT is getting married in 2003 and will not have time to plan a marriage and work for the newspaper.
Kent was in a couple of my classes, but I really got to know him this year. He’s a cool guy and works hard at whatever he does. He can also put a nice spiral on a football and really put away some wings.
Kent, good luck to you on your new job and marriage, and all of us here at the ‘Nade’ are proud of you and thankful for all your efforts this semester.
JT has definitely brought a relaxed and fun atmosphere to The Colonnade this semester. I think what I’m going to miss most about him is the long, engaging Simpsons conversations we would have.
JT will do anything to get someone to laugh or feel better. I remember a few times this semester I was feeling really low and the last thing I wanted to do was to work on articles. JT simply asked if there was anything that he could do. I told him that I just felt like hitting something. He said “How about me?” I replied “I can’t hit you. Can I clothesline you, though?”
I held out my arm, and JT got a running start and laid-out himself upon impact. This not only brought joy to me, but to the other staff members.
JT, it’s been great getting to know you this year. I hope the new year brings much success to you and your marriage.
