Benefits fair to aid faculty and staff

Georgia College & State University will host its second annual Benefits Fair Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Maxwell Student Union Lounge and on the third floor of Parks Hall.

The Benefits Fair kicks off Open Enrollment, when employees can make changes in their health and insurance coverage, take advantage of pre-tax premiums, and enroll in the Flexible Spending Accounts for 2003.

Activities and exhibits will continue throughout the day. The event is co-sponsored by Human Resources, President Rosemary DePaolo and the Staff Council.

Staff Council Chair Barbara Monnett stressed the main reason for such an event.

“It’s for the employees of GC&SU, and to find out more about their benefits, and if there are any benefit changes that will affect them,” she said.

In addition to Thursday’s festivities, Staff Council will have a table serving apple cider and lemonade, as well as the American Red Cross sponsoring a blood drive. All are welcome to give blood.

Along with the blood drive planned activities include a workshop on “The Georgia Higher Education Savings Plan,” a yoga demonstration by Dr. Barbara Funke, associate professor of health education; sessions on purchasing and inventory procedures; preventing computer-related injuries; using e-mail and more.

Representatives from the health, retirement, credit union, reimbursement, insurance vendors and on-campus services will participate. Staff from Human Resources will be available to answer questions about benefits, employment, training and payroll plus employees can sign up for one or more of the free retirement, health care and personal development workshops offered during the fair. All faculty members, staff and retirees are invited to attend.

Monnett said that last year’s event produced an outstanding turnout.

“We had good participation last year, and we hope to have even better participation this year,” she said. “We look forward to seeing everybody on Thursday Oct. 31.”

Halloween treats and door prizes will add to the fun. Employees may wear costumes if they wish. For more information about the Benefits Fair or Open Enrollment, please contact Human Resources by phone at
