Relationship realities…

‘What a man, what a mighty good man’

I can’t lie and say I’m a superhero. Actually, I’m far from it, that is why I take comfort in a good man. But, as much as it pains me to say this, they are hard to find. Don’t worry, I’m not writing out of bitterness, just observation. And, believe it or not, I’ve got some good things to say about the male species.

First of all, nothing replaces the love of a good man, and sometimes we ladies get this confused. There is a big difference between Mr. Right and Mr. Right-Now. A good man is allowed to forget things sometimes but never forgets the important stuff. He is emotional on his own time, and yes, he is sensitive.

Several of my friends ask me, “Why is it that I haven’t found him yet?” Though I love them dearly, these are the same girls who go out every Thursday thinking their White Knight is going to ride up on his horse dancing to Nelly in the background. It doesn’t work that way.

My mom used to say that things work out on their own, nothing in life can ever be rushed. So, just like you’re wondering where that good man is, he is wondering the same thing about you. Just give it time, and learn that patience is a virtue.

Now, the truth is, and it has to be said, we tend to not give guys the credit they deserve. This goes far past changing the oil and fixing the door knob, because, in all honesty, we can do that ourselves. Some of us choose not to, and some of us simply don’t know how. But ladies, we have to give credit when credit is due.

There is no greater feeling in the world than to lie in the arms of a man who truly loves you. I’m not going to get sentimental, but I hope that you all one day know that feeling. It’s when you can walk around the house with no make-up on, slip into an old pair of cheer shorts from high school and a T-shirt and watch “Tom & Jerry,” without feeling childish.

And to find out if he’s truly committed, to borrow a theory from one of my favorite movies- if when the two of you are alone, all snuggled up and cozy, and he gives you the very last piece of food, the absolute last piece, then you’ve hit the jackpot.

So I say to all of the independent women out there, stand by your man, because if you don’t, there will be somebody else out there who happily will.
