Vic Henley brings comedic act to GC&SU

Using Southern “good ol’ boy charm Vic Henley, author of “Things You Don’t Expect Southerners to Say,” is bringing his comedic act to Georgia College & State University, Tuesday, Oct. 22 for all to enjoy.

“We are hoping to see the Maxwell Student Union lounge full of people,” said Jessica Ward, assistant director of Relations and Recruitment. “We first came into contact with him through the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) last year.”

Henley’s improvisational ability, quick wit and high-energy shows have earned him a reputation as one of the nation’s fastest rising comedians. His appearance has been described as “a cross between Opie Taylor and Don Rickles, or a potent concoction of innocence and devilment.”

Henley’s shows cover a wide variety of topics including current events, sports, religion, relationships and even politics. This is just one of the reasons Henley has been so successful all over the world as a comedian.

Henley’s extensive knowledge of music led to a brief stay as an on air personality on VH-1.

Henley is from Oxford, Ala. where he graduated from Auburn University and then headed to Phoenix for a career as a stockbroker. His career path changed lanes when he entered and won a comedy contest at a local night club. Henley then began to work the comedy club circuit and then moved his efforts to New York. This move led to his first appearance on the ‘CBS Morning Program.’ From there he had many
television appearances including ‘Star Search,’ Fox’s ‘Comic Strip Live,’ A&E’s ‘Evening at the improv’ and Rosie O’Donnell’s ‘Stand-up Spotlight.’ Henley is a well-traveled man as well, having traveled to the United Kingdom for an appearance on the BBC’s ‘Stand-up Show’ and ‘Never Mind the Buzzcocks.’

While performing over 40 weeks per year, Henley has headlined for some of the nations most prominent and popular comedy clubs. He also dabbles the corporate market once in a while, where he once co-hosted an event with former President George Bush. Henley has performed over 500 shows on college campuses as well. In addition, he has been the opening act for Ray Charles, Alabama, Chicago, The Doobie Brothers, Warren Zevon, Dennis Miller, Brooks and Dunn, Dana Carvey and many more.

“We are looking forward to seeing the MSU lounge full of people Tuesday night,” said Ward.

If you would like more information about Henley’s performance you can contact the Campus Activity Board at (478) 445-3200.
