GC&SU demonstrates Mad-ness skills

Tuesday marked the first official day of practice for collegiate basketball programs as mandated by the NCAA.

The Centennial Center hosted Bobcat Madness. The Georgia College & State University men’s and women’s basketball teams participated in scrimmage games for a crowd who was seeing the 2002-2003 Bobcats and Lady Bobcats for the first time.

The men’s and women’s teams divided into two teams. The two teams played a 20 minute scrimmage.

GC&SU Bobcat guard Johnnie Stafford hit a running lay-up with four seconds to play to lift the GC&SU White team to a 40-38 victory over the Green team.

In the women’s game, guard Adrienne Tucker scored 12 points to lead the White team to a 36-22 victory over the Blue team.

In the men’s game, Stafford’s lay-up broke a 38-all tie as the White team survived a missed shot at the buzzer to hold on for the two-point victory. Duke Gibbs went 4-6 from three-point range and led the White team with 14 points. Daryl Ruffus and Rodney Keener scored 13 points a piece to lead the Green team in the loss.

In the women’s game, Tucker hit six of eight shots to lead the White team in the 36-22 victory. Alicia Porter led the White team, with nine rebounds to go along with three points. Jenica Johnson and Breane Haggard led the Blue team with six points each. Johnson also had six rebounds.

The Lady Bobcats open the 2002-03 season Nov. 22 at the Kennesaw State Tournament. The Bobcats open the season at home on Nov. 23 against Albany State University.
