Bobcats run well in Bobcat Invitational

Sophomore Bethany Loushine ran the third fastest time in school history and crossed the line first to help the Georgia College & State University women’s cross country team defeat Oglethorpe University in the Bobcat Invitational Saturday at the Little Fishing Creek Golf Course.

The GC&SU men finished second out of three teams as Morgan Stallings ran the sixth fastest time in school history.

In the women’s 5K, Loushine ran the course in 20:36 to finish first, more than a minute ahead of second place finisher Bee Meyer of Oglethorpe.

GC&SU’s Mandy Alliston finished third overall with a time of 21:50, while Kelly Sowers was fourth in a time of 23:10. Kelley Fleischmann was fifth overall in a time of 23:19, while Lindsey Bloodworth rounded out the top five for the Bobcats with a time of 23:42 to finish in sixth place.

In the men’s 8K, Clayton State University had five of the top six finishers to win with 16 points. Clayton State was led by Tony Juarez’s first place finish in a time of 26:47.

The Bobcats were second with 48 points, while Oglethorpe was third with 76. Stallings was GC&SU’s top finisher in fifth place with a time of 28:15. Teammate James Black was close behind in seventh place with a time of 28:25. Will Hill was tenth in a time of 31:13, while Jeff Raymond was 12th with a time of 32:07. Nate Mwane was 14th with a time of 33:39 to round out the top five for the Bobcats.

The GC&SU cross country teams travel to Erskine College in Due West, S.C. Thursday, Oct. 17.
