Loud and clear
This past weekend I was finally able to get out of the house and take my Fianc? Pamela on a date. For our date we decided to go to the movies in Macon; that night I noticed something. Movie theatres are getting really large, and much more comfortable.
When I was little (yes one more trip down my very own memory lane.it won’t be too long this time I promise) I remembered going to the movies with my family. The theatre that was in my hometown wasn’t small, but it wasn’t exactly the lap of luxury either. They had the usual movie theatre characteristics sticky floor, constant popcorn smell and outrageous prices leaving you to wonder why you didn’t just bring your own candy. These problems were irritating, but in my opinion there was one problem that always loomed over the rest. You always had to worry about that older woman sitting in front of you with her huge hairdo blocking your vision.
Now those worries are long gone. Now we have much larger theatres with stadium seating.
Whoever came up with the stadium seating concept for movie theatres should be given a pat on the back, because they really eliminate a lot of problems that usually occurred at the movies. Sitting higher up at the movies really brings you into the movie and helps you get more involved. There is just something about not having to strain your neck to look up at the screen that makes movie watching that much more enjoyable.
The seats have also changed quite dramatically as well. Movie theatre seats used to be small, square, confining seats with small slabs of plastic on the sides, known to some as armrests. Now the movie theatre seat is a smaller version of a cloth La-z-boy chair with lots of padding for your posterior and back. Get this, most of the armrests swivel up, just in case a spontaneous romantic encounters. During a boring (or good) movie there is a pretty good chance that you just might fall asleep and do so quite comfortably. whether or not that’s good or bad I’ll let you be the judge.
So for those of you who can’t get out to the movies as often as I do, which once again isn’t very frequently, I want you to notice the movie theatre evolution going on the next time you make it out to one of the newer theatres. And remember to enjoy the show.
