Loud and clear
I think video games pretty much peaked when Nintendo released the game Super Mario All-Stars.
Ahh, the pure fun days of the Super Nintendo, what a sweet life it was. I remember the days of waking up early on Saturday morning, eyes glued to the TV set, loving every minute of the 32bit action. I also remember the day I returned home from college looking for my old SNES console, only to be told by the parents they sold it at a garage sale years ago. Luckily, I was able to find another unit in Atlanta in pretty good shape at
a decent price.
The ability to save between every level was one feature that the original Mario Brothers titles lacked.
I remember the frustration of having to turn off the game in the middle of a level when the parental units called you away to do seemingly important things. Super Mario Brothers All-Stars has this feature, and believe me, it makes the games more fun to play. I always hated the fact that I had to repeat a level I had beaten just one day earlier just because the lawn needed to be cut.
For those of you out there who haven’t experienced the greatness of Super Mario All-Stars, let me give you a brief overview of what it’s all about.
It’s pretty much a remake of all three of the original Mario games consisting of the SMB original, SMB2, SMB2 The Lost Levels (which was actually the original SMB2 in Japan in the US. SMB2 was actually a version of a Japanese game called “Doki Doki Panic.” Don’t ask me how I know that.) The feature that really got people’s attention back when it was originally released was the fact that all of the graphics had been “enhanced.”
After all the years this has been out, I still love to play this game. When I was a kid I wasn’t a big video game fan, but when this title was released my views on the matter changed. I loved it and still do to this day.
I don’t know what else to say, but go out and find a Super Nintendo for cheap. You can find them all over. Pawn shops, garage sales (that’s where my original left me), or if worse comes to worse just look on e-bay.
If you follow my advice and get one of these games, you won’t be disappointed. Just put the cartridge in, and you’ll have guaranteed fun for hours.
