Cross country finishes well; runners break more records
Georgia College & State University’s cross country team came away from the 15th Annual Francis Marion Invitational with new Bobcat records.
Saturday, sophomore Bethany Loushine finished with a time of 20:40 in the women’s 5K event. The Lady Bobcats finished 5th in the thirteen team field with 188 points.
J.R. Black contributed a record-breaking time as well in the 8k to lead the men’s team to a 5th place finish. The ‘Cats finished with 147 points in the 11 team field.
In the women’s race, Loushine once again entered a record time with a 11th place finish overall and the third fastest time in GC&SU history. Clayton State University’s Heather Krehbiel crossed the line first with a time of 19:52 to help her team win the meet with 42 points. Defiance College was second with 54 points, while Bluffton College was third with
97 points.
GC&SU’s Kelly Sowers also put her name in the school record books. She finished in the GC&SU top ten with a time of 21:13 and the school’s seventh fastest time. She finished 18th overall. Lindsey Bloodworth finished 36th with a time of 22:39, while Megan Spall and Kelly Fleischmann rounded out the top five with close times of 24:00 and 24:37 to finish 60th and 61st.
For the men’s team, GC&SU senior J.R. Black rewrote the record books with a personal best 27:40 and the second fastest time in school history. That was good enough to finish 6th overall. Black’s teammate and fellow senior Morgan Stallings was a little over a minute behind with a time of 28:45 for 12th place.
Senior Will Hill crossed the line at 30:39 to finish 31st overall. Jeff Raymond finished 44th with a time of 31:34. Sophomore Nate Mwane completed the five-man roster with a time of 33:06 to finish 54th.
Clayton State University completed the sweep with the top three finishers including Tony Juarez’s first place time of 26:34 to win with 19 points. Francis Marion was a distant second with 111 points.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday, Oct.12 to host the Bobcat
Invitational in Milledgeville.
